Before doing the tricks, prepare your body and bedroom. Make sure you avoid caffeinated beverages that can stimulate your body instead of making it relaxed. Your bedroom must already be darkened and the environment must be conducive to sleep.
First thing you can do is to breathe deeply. Inhale and exhale through your mind. Then clear your mind and thoughts of other things you are thinking. Relax. Get rid of those things you were worrying about previously and start emptying your mind of them. Relax your whole body and prepare to sleep.
Now it’s time for a mental game. A letter game, perhaps, utilizing the alphabet. Think of a category, maybe a country or a sport that can be associated with each letter of that alphabet. For instance, think of Bolivia or Basketball for the letter “B” and so forth. Chances are you might fall asleep halfway or at least before reaching the end of the alphabet letter.
In cases you are still awake even after finishing the first trick, then it’s time to do another game. Imagine a calm place you’ve been dreaming to go to to enjoy, maybe a beach or a quiet park. Imagine yourself being on that place alone and the things you can do. It can get you relaxed and dreamy continuing this.
You need not always to do the same game over and over again, or else it will not have an effect on you anymore.
